Hi, everyone! This week I'm going to review my favorite TV series that just released, Marvel's Daredevil: Season 2. If you haven't watch the first season, Where have you been? You need to open netflix, type "Daredevil" and watch the season 1 right away and follow by its latest season. May I remind you for the spoiler alert. Let's get to it!
First of all, I'm a huge fan of Marvel's works. Both Cinematic Universe and Comic Universe. I started to be a fan since Marvel's Avenger released. I was so hyped up seeing this superheroes combined together in one movie. It was marvelous and opened up this whole new world of US comic books universe. Growing up I used to read a lot of manga like Naruto, One Piece, etc. I collected each volume to the point where my room was full with manga books. That's another story.
Last year after long years away from its own home, Daredevil's right was back to Marvel Studio from its previous owner, Twentieth Century Fox. I thought the studio would develop Daredevil into movie franchise like Iron Man but they decided to do it as a TV series. As long as they bring a good story for Matt Murdock in Hell's Kitchen, I'm down for it. They chose Netflix to be the platform for show along side Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defender's miniseries. In my personal experience, Netflix has been produced many high quality TV series including my favorite ones such as Sense8, Orange is The New Black, House of Cards, Narcos, etc. So I've no doubt that they would ace in this one.
The first season was a complete success. It was grim, dark, crime thriller. It captured the essence of Matt Murdock being a vigilante under named the Devil of Hell's Kitchen with its corruption and troubles of Wilson Fisk a.k.a Kingpin. By the successful of season one, Netflix obviously ordered the second season. After 13 hours of binge watching the second season, I have to give an around of applauses for the director and the team. It was outstanding. The storyline was just incredible and they consistently stayed with their dark and grim style.
In this season, the story is about Matt Murdock handled the unbalanced Hell's Kitchen after Kingpin was no longer around. All of gangs want to take the throne but they are also being hunted by a vigilante with named the Punisher. The Punisher isn't like Matt who handle his targets without killing them. He used military precision to exterminate his targets and put Hell's Kitchen under siege. The ex-girlfriend show up and got hunt down by the ancient order of ninja. The constant battle between Matt Murdock and his best friend, Foggy about his safety and priority of being Daredevil and lawyer in their law firm.
13 hours worth of entertainment. It felt like it wasn't a TV series, it was 13-hours crime thriller film. Story was deep and each episode made you think what would happen to certain characters. Purely addictive. You can't just watch the first episode and think "Well, I'm going to watch the next episode tomorrow.". You can't and you will continue to watch it till the last episode. The cinematography was insanely good. There are a lot of nice composed shots. All scene gave its own meanings and details. The fighting sequences were impressive. The casts were absolutely undeniably right for each characters. Charlie Cox was great playing Matt Murdock (Daredevil) and how he successfully played Matt as a lawyer with the frustration of having two different separate lives and developed a love interest to his assistant in the firm, Karen Page played by Deborah Ann Moss. Moss was really good as a hard working assistant also being the glue that held the friendship of Matt and Foggy (Elden Henson). Henson was giving a good amount of funny and jokes to this crime thriller. I've seen Jon Bernthal in the Walking Dead, Fury and The Wolf of Wall Street. To be honest, I was a bit worried he would take Frank Castle (The Punisher) too far but he managed it perfectly. So does Elodie Yung who played Matt's Ex-Lover, Elektra Natchios. She gave a really good sassy and witty presense as Elektra. I've got nothing bad to say. Congratulation, Netflix for continue to produce high quality TV series and never let anything below standard.
P.s if you want to watch it make sure you have the day to yourself. No meetings, home works, nothing. Make sure you enjoy peacefully without any interruption. For those people who haven't watch, let me give you a trailer to explore.
Spread positive vibes and stay awesome!
